Since March 2024, a small and friendly team from the Shrewsbury Buddhist Centre has been running weekly sessions in Telford & Wrekin for anyone interested in discovering more about the timeless teachings of the Buddha.
Some people’s interest in meditation and Buddhism stems from a longing to find greater meaning and connection. For others, it’s about discovering tools to overcome the suffering and dissatisfaction that we all experience. As the Buddha said, I teach suffering and the end of suffering.
Whatever your motivation, this is a great opportunity to learn more in an easy-going, supportive environment.
These meetings are open to all but are especially recommended for people who are new to Buddhism or meditation and are keen to learn more.
On a typical evening, we’ll focus on a short, guided meditation practice with a chance to discuss our experience. In the second half, we’ll briefly explore an aspect of Buddhist teaching and how we can apply it to our lives. Importantly, we’ll also enjoy drinks and biscuits in a half-time break!
Can’t make it every week? No problem! There’s no commitment, and each evening is a standalone session, so don’t worry about coming along if you’ve not been to any of our meetings before.
No, just turn up by 7:15pm.
We ask for a donation of £5 to help us cover the cost of hiring the room. However, if you are unwaged or struggling financially, please don’t worry.
The Wakes is right next door to Telford Theatre, and there’s a large free car park behind the building, and train and bus stations are very nearby.
If you’re coming from the car park, head up to the top of the curved walkway. The Wakes is the building on your right. You’ll find us on the first floor (there’s a lift for anyone with mobility issues).
If you're travelling by car, take Junction 5 from the M54, left onto Rampart Way, followed by a left at the next island onto A442. Take the exit off the A442 for Oakengates and use the third exit. Go straight over the first mini-island and turn right at the second mini-island. Immediately turn right into Oakengates Centre.
We look forward to meeting you, but if you'd like to know more beforehand, you're welcome to:
